Busdriver/Friendly Fires/Arctic Monkeys

July 29, 2009 · 5 Comments

OK, this post has put me in some real shit. But, it remains, apologies to arctic monkeys/domino, but when i remove a track as asked, I don’t like a DMCA notice! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, email/comment me, I will happily take down anything. If i get another one, the blog will be barred apparently.

long hair is baaaaad
“Pretty Visitors” Removed by request of Domino Records
Here’s “Bigger Boys & Stolen Sweethearts”, one of their oldest and best songs, only released as part of their early demos.

This next song has just brought a brilliantly big smile to my face. SO so so good. Hip hop this fast can be really annoying, but it’s just a greatly executed way that this song does it and Busdriver does pull it off.
Busdriver – Me-Time
Not sure about the rest of the album yet, but this track is fantastic.

And finally, the last of the songs today, the new Friendly Fires single;
Friendly Fires – Kiss of Life

Enjoy!

i have myself a ticket

not a golden ticket…..but one to Reading festival.

picture-3
I am so excited. Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys and Radiohead. Three of the bands I actually really want to see are the headliners. This is a day of jubilation for myself. Whateve I do, I want to be as close to Radiohead’s performance as possible, if you’re a frequent reader, you might be familiar with my constant mention of them, which has thinned out in recent months. But alas, In Rainbows is one album I could constantly listen to. And some of the supporting acts aren’t half bad either, Bloc Party, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Maximo Park, Vampire Weekend Placebo, Brand New and IAN BLOODY BROWN! With a whole host of bands I am sure to get excited about yet to be announced, this far-off weekend is shaping up well.

Radiohead – Bangers & Mash
Arctic Monkeys – Bigger Boys and Stolen Sweethearts
Kings of Leon – Head to Toe

Valentines

February 14, 2009 · 1 Comment

valentines day, possibly the worst day of the year?, is winding to a close and here’s my post I wished I had done earlier. Just a couple of (semi)romantic songs for you to listen to, including an outstanding Arctic Monkeys b-side that everyone should hear.

I also did a valentine’s themed show during my radio slot last thursday. Obviously going to recycle a few of the songs here.

Metronomy – A thing for me
I love this Metronomy song, the video is also brilliant, the ‘maya art uno’ and such like is rather funny

Animal Collective – My Girls
I dont know if Id classify this as romantic, but it fits well in my mind, it did in my playlist anyway.

Arctic Monkeys – Baby I’m Yours
Utterly fantastic b-side that is in my opinion a definite hint at what Alex Turner would go on to do with Last Shadow Puppets, (yes this is more styled to the 50s but it shows his interest in older music and aim to recreate it)

That’s all for today folks.

B-Side Sunday

December 14, 2008 · 3 Comments

I want to post some b-sides, alot of them are fantastic, some are shoddy, but lets not think about those.

got this from google images if you want to know

anyway, to start off, there’s this, the Arctic Monkeys covering The Little Flames, it appeared on the “Leave Before The Lights Come On” single, I have to say it betters the original effort, even though it was a great song.
Arctic Monkeys – Put Your Dukes Up, John

Kings of Leon have done some great b-sides in the past, but this is my favourite one, appeared on the “On Call” single in 2007, it’s a great song which unlike the album, Because of The Times, to me really harked back to their previous work.
Kings of Leon – My Third House

Next up is Thom Yorke, he only released one single from his ‘06 solo debut “The Eraser” but it was a good one, Harrowdown Hill is arguably the best song on that album. It came with one b-side, which you’ll find below
Thom Yorke – The Drunkk Machine

The Libertines did this great b-side I heard recently, from the “Can’t Stand Me Now” single, it strikes out quite bold, its a very good song, pretty much album worthy in my opinion
The Libertines – Never Never

Finally, to round up, Franz Ferdinand delivered this on the single, “Do You Want To”, its one of my favourite b-sides ever too, i just love the track.
Franz Ferdinand – Your Diary

tuesday tuneage – on monday

September 8, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Well I thought I’d write it early, haven’t done one for a couple of weeks anyway.

Feral Mare – Christopher
Ok, I do know the drummer, Tom (pictured above), I love this song though. Seeing as I now have a hypem listing I thought I should post this is an effort for the band to get a little more attention. There is a rather big amount of promise there I think.
Myspace

Arctic Monkeys – Flourescent Adolescent (acoustic)
I don’t know how/why, but Alex Turner’s vocals on this sound much, well human. If that makes sense. There seems to be more behind his voice and the cough he has is just humbling. He’s no god, just a great musician/lyricisst. The whole mecca dobber/betting pencil line is hilarious.

Armand Van Helden – You Don’t Know Me (GRUM Remix)
Now this is my favourite remix ever, they took a personal favourite dance track and spiced it up, making it ten times better and I just love every second of it. It’s just a song that deserves a second, third and fourth consecutive listen. Too me I can see a Justice influence, but I could be wrong. Well done, GRUM

Radiohead – 15 Step (Live @ Lollapalooza 2008)
Regular readers may have read before of my love for Radiohead, I love the band, one of my ambitions is to see them live. This track is a favourite of mine that just somehow sounds amazingly good live, even on recordings, which you have to admit can never compare to being there.

Foals – Olympic Airways
Quite like this new single of Foals, the video is an almost certain head-trip mind-fuck of the Oxford band, it’s competely non-senseical but still looks good, Yannis painted black is actually rather interesting, like, how could he have not got it on his face when they’re thowing it at him.

I’ll be on the college bus by the time this is posted (thanks again to scheduled posting) EEK! I ca’t wait for college! YEAH
