The perhaps unimaginable has been revealed, that Luke Steele, of Empire of the Sun will be featuring upon Jay Z’s upcoming The Blueprint 3 as Pitchfork reports.
I had no idea the two had ever met, let alone ever have the notion of recording together, other than Steele’s inclusion, Jay Z’s album holds little surprises in guest appearances, although it certainly has more than any of his older albums. But then again, it proves more genius of the man. I am hoping for Blueprint 3 to be fantastic and by opening his album with an unusual guest, it sure bodes well for the CEO of hip-hop. I hope he even samples an Empire of the Sun song, wouldn’t that sound amazing?

Noah and the Whale recently brought out this song as a single as well as giving away THREE free remixes on their website. The video for the single ‘Blue Skies’ is cleverly also a trailer for the album/film The First Days of Spring which is released 31st August over here in the UK and 6th October in the US. It’s certainly an ambitious project that looks set to be rather interesting,

a beautifully sombre, emotional song that shows how much more brilliant Noah and the Whale have become since their impressive debut album released last year, it wasn’t a major success but I really enjoyed it. Watching the video, it also makes me want to watch that film quite a damn lot. It looks both saddening and depressing whilst joyful and lifting and with a sense of ever-present hope that the song’s atmospheric sound repeatedly induces. The imagery and music very much go hand in hand.
Below, I’ve collected the three remixes here for you to conveniently download. I can’t say I have a favourite, but each one approaches the source material differently, sometimes keeping the quite sombre attitude (like Death to the Throne’s) or destroying it completely (like Twelves’). They are all widely varying but also all rather brilliant remixes of an originally already beautiful song. The Yacht remix is also to be included on the incredibly limited 7″ single, link to buy below. Blue Skies (Yacht Remix) Blue Skies (Death To The Throne Remix) Blue Skies (Twelves Remix)

seriously, isn’t this seriously awesome? that’s bad writing right there, repeating my adjectives. Anyway, watch and witness the amazing impact Zach Hill is having on Nathan William’s no-longer-one-man supergroup.
Fuck yeah! after the dare-I-say-it seminal ‘Mickey Mouse’ track, Nathan “Wavves” Williams pulls out another storming track, this time dubbed ‘Cool Jumper’. Again in similiar vein to the last song, it sounds oh-so lo-fi AnCo, which in my mind is no bad thing. This song, again re-affirms my love for the one man-outfit, doubled when touring, and despite how much of an absolute prick he can appear in re: to his interviews/drug-induced breakdowns, he just reeks an air of coolness and also insatiable talent.
It’s almost irrepressible, mere months are releasing an amazing second album upon the world, so far my album of the year, as well as his impressive debut last year, Williams keeps going and bringing out better and better stuff. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was the next album round the corner. For the song itself, this is fantastically pumping, and reminiscent of Mickey Mouse, with some lovely repeated lyrics, one of the main lines being the title of this post.
Fans of his previous work, plus those who’ve been drawn in from fairly recent pitchfork coverage of his madcap drug breakdown/tour cancelling/road to recovery antics, will love it, so enjoy the track for download beloww;
This is one of the best EPs I’ve heard in a long while. The collection here is held up aloft by the most amazing “Seasun”. In a kind of Animal Collective synth-disjointed-looping-vocals-and-beats way, the song builds and builds, culminating in my most often-used phrase, a crescendo of brilliance. This is for me, one of the most perfect ways to follow listenings of Animal Collective’s tremendous “Merriweather Post Pavilion”, these songs definitely lends itself to the songcraft of the Baltimore natives. But it has a unique sense of urgency and definitely does achieve a more dance-oriented feel on first listen. There is also the brilliantly, base-laden 90s house keyboards, as witnessed in recent weeks with Bloc Party’s “One More Chance”, especially in the song “Moonson”. Although only 4 tracks (5 if you acquire the bonus digital edition and one being a remix) this little spoiler of what can seemingly be only a brighter future for the Madrid-based outfit is perhaps the perfect little dose of happier, more summery music for this dreary, dredful august.
Delorean are most certainly an act you definitely should be impressed with, their Mystery Jets – Half in Love with Elizabeth remix also something incredibly good. Check them out, give them a look in, buy the EP, whatever, these spaniards deserve your support.
