The Spirit of Apollo

I love this album already, it’s fantastic. Well to be honest, I loved it as soon as I heard the Kanye West/Lykke Li/Santogold track. But it’s consistently good, throughout the running time it astounded me with the quality of these near-legendary collaborations.

I’m sure that this album will go down in history as one of the best albums ever made, not just in Hip Hop, but the collected music world. I cant see it being defined just as Hip Hop as it contains essences of many other genres, as well as guests from all variety of music. And honestly would you ever have predicted that Lykke Li and Kanye West would make a song together? Or Karen O and Ol’ Dirty Bastard for that matter?

It’s this whole essence of surprise that makes Spirit of Apollo unique, it grants it great appeal. I personally down dislike any of the songs on here, it’s all good in my books, all great in fact. Though currently, my favourite is easily ‘Strange Enough’ with the aforementioned Karen O, Ol’ Dirty Bastard and Fat Lip. It features great choral singing from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman and a brilliant beat with some fantastic rapping.

Also, I am loving the ‘Money’ song, it has David Byrne and Chuck D on it, amongst others, another awesome beat here people should hear. A fantastically true chorus as well.

Well I won’t spoil it any further, I heartily recommend you go out and buy this as soon as possible, even if purely for the fantastically amazing cover that just looks great. GET IT NOW!

Valentines

valentines day, possibly the worst day of the year?, is winding to a close and here’s my post I wished I had done earlier. Just a couple of (semi)romantic songs for you to listen to, including an outstanding Arctic Monkeys b-side that everyone should hear.

I also did a valentine’s themed show during my radio slot last thursday. Obviously going to recycle a few of the songs here.

Metronomy – A thing for me
I love this Metronomy song, the video is also brilliant, the ‘maya art uno’ and such like is rather funny

Animal Collective – My Girls
I dont know if Id classify this as romantic, but it fits well in my mind, it did in my playlist anyway.

Arctic Monkeys – Baby I’m Yours
Utterly fantastic b-side that is in my opinion a definite hint at what Alex Turner would go on to do with Last Shadow Puppets, (yes this is more styled to the 50s but it shows his interest in older music and aim to recreate it)
